THIS REMODEL COST $850.00.   Materials and labor.  The walls behind the tub surround kit were constructed of stucco.  we had to make a decision on how much of the wall to tear down.  The stucco had gotten so wet over the years, it was mostly sand and easy to remove.  the stucco that did not get wet however was intact and difficult to remove.   fortunately we did not have to knock down any higher than  what the tile would cover.  these projects are not easy to estimate cost and material.

This project requires removing the tub surround kit that is peeling off of the walls.  It looked like a simple job but, I discovered the walls were made of stucco as you will see in other photos of the project.

After we removed the plastic tub surround, we hammered, picked and used whatever tool we could to remove all the sand, stucco and the corroded wire mesh.

In this step, we screwed the wet board ( moisture resistant sheetrock ) on to the existing 1x6 nailers and 1x4's that we added for more support, after we made sure the walls were plumb level and square.

Tape and floating is easy,  Ain't it?

I love the way that tile looks.
